nas first albumWhy do people come to thi conclusion just because illmatic was nas first album its his best work . ?

yes of course illmatic will always be considered a classic . but just because its a classic doesnt mean its his best work . illmatic is wha open the doors in his career and was also a versatile album just like all his others. but in my honest opinion i would prefer to listen to stillmatic, street disciples, and it was written . now i dont know if this is the underground groupies who hypes this album up ,or just the people who just listen to the next person . undeground groupies is not pointed at people who like underground music cause i do also . but the ones who follower a certain category of music just like mainstream fans. so whats your opinion on illmatic. is it his best album or ?
Usually it's the other way around. If it's a debut, they see it as not the best work.
Some people overhype Illmatic but I think it's definitely his best album and the one I like to listen to most.. I think It Was Written is his 2nd best album but I prefer to listen to Stillmatic so it's just a matter of personal opinion..
No, Illmatic is the best album. But you can prefer to listen to other ones, that's perfectly fine. But Illmatic is definitely the best. It's all about taste though in terms of which one you like to listen to the most.

And whoever said Street's Disciple is his worst album, you have heard of Nastradamus right? LOL
It's not because it's his first album. It's because the album is f*ckin perfect. 9 songs of one MC rhyming his AV儿劣 off while dropping some deep and poetic lines that just flow perfectly with a dream team of production.

How could you not see hnas first albumow it's revered as one of the best hip hop albums of all time (usually the best).

The only mark I see where this album falls short in comparison to Nas' other albums is in terms of content. Most of Illmatic is almost like an insane 40 minute freestyle. One Love tells a story, but every other song is just sort of focused on Nas' rhyming.

That's also kinda why I hold his album The Lost Tapes in such high regard, cause it's almost like it's the equivilent of Illmatic from the other side of Nas. Drunk By Myself, Fetus, Poppa Was a Player, Doo Rags, Purple, Black Zombies, etc. Every song on there is really about something and the story telling and content on that album are as good as it gets.

To me those two albums are WAY ABOVE anything else in his catalogue, so I strongly disagree that Stillmatic, Street's Disciple, or It Was Written are better than Illmatic.
You may like to listen to his other albums more but that doesn't necessarily mean they’re better than Illmatic.

I think there’s little doubt that Illmatic is his best album. It’s one of the most influential hip-hop albums of all time. It helped east coast hip-hop become prominent in the mid 90’s. You might think it’s overrated but it is regarded as his best album for a reason…

i prefer to listen to God's Son than any of his other albums...does that mean its his best? No, its just what i'd rather listen to. Just like you'd prefer to LISTEN to Stillmatic, Streets Disciple, or It Was Written, does that mean they're better? No

just my personal opinion, but Street's Disciple is his worst nas first albumalbum
I think "Illmatic" is his best album, despite the fact it was his debut album.

Illmatic is his critically acclaimed best album. It's up to you if it's your favorite album or your favorite Nas album. So it's okay that you like Stillmatic or Street's Disciple more than Illmatic.

I think people are also, "stuck in the past", like you said. People will never let go of the fact that there will never be another 2pac or Notorious B.I.G. Those names are always the two that stand out the most because those two happened to have passed away. The majority of people who claim those two as "the two best ever" probably weren't even around when they were in their prime. They just assume that because you're deceased, that your the best ever. The same thing with fads. People think that we're gonna hear "Soulja Boy-type" music for the rest of our lives. We're not. It's just a fad. That's why I don't jump on the "Soulja Boy is killing hip-hop" bandwagon.

But I still think Illmatic is a timeless classic. That's the one album for me, at least, that never gets old. You may think differently, but that's your opinion, and I respect that.

I don't listen to Illmatic everyday and only listen to Illmatic all the time. I too, like to sometimes listen to I Am... or It Was Written.
All the Nas albums are good.
